To not embrace AI is foolish. My opinion is that AI can enhance our lives and in my case will improve my photography workflow (full disclosure, I use Gemini AI).

How does AI help a photographer? well, it allows me to automate the first phase of my editing process. I expect that in the very near future, most photographers will become enthralled by the dazzling results that are quite often generated.

The camera isn’t a human eye/brain, therefore all final images are edited to enhance results. There are maybe one or two photographs I have taken in my long career that haven’t been edited, but that’s it – one or two.

I don’t know how many people have ever generated an AI image before, but you should try it. The most amazing thing to me is that results are created (colour style in particular) that I simply wouldn’t have thought of… which often gives me a style to match. It’s as simple as that.

Photographers would rarely use AI to generate an image from scratch, or even to change an existing frame, but when it comes to creating a great style I don’t think there is anything better.

It’s actually fun and amazing in equal measure.

I like running portraits, group photos and event frames through to see what I get.
