A couple of months ago I attended a Wedding Photography workshop here in Hobart. It was great fun to be with many of Tasmania’s wedding photographers, and there were heaps there!  The course was run by the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers.  The guest speaker was a brilliant photographer from Melbourne – Shireen Hammond. What she doesn’t know about wedding photography, isn’t worth knowing.

One of the best parts of the course was having a Bride and Groom, both looking amazing.  It is rare to have a couple to light, move and manipulate, when there is no rush – that just never happens.  We learned about the posing techniques that are now commonplace. This is the difference between a professional photographer and a guest with pretty good camera. It’s nice to have some candid shots taken by friends and family as they too can get some magic moments. There is an art to helping the wedding couple to pose, without looking like they are posing! There really are numerous ways for a bride to stand so she looks either elegant or relaxed. It was an opportunity for everyone to share their tips on” thinning” a bride or groom – even reducing a double chin and arms right down.

A trained wedding photographer should be able to make the most out of any situation, whether it be, lighting, weather or space issues that you might face. It was a great couple of days!
