I photographed a wedding yesterday. Estimated rainfall was between 6 – 10mm. There was a beautiful little lull in rain just long enough for the very quick ceremony – I should note, the celebrant was fantastic, she said that we should wait 15 minutes just to see if the rain would ease off – it did. We got the ceremony done quick smart and then it poured. The congradulations were done inside a large carport – hugs and kisses all around.

Here’s the lesson to brand new wedding photographers, Watch the sky! I could see there was a tiny break coming where I could grab the bride and groom to run off into a little puddle of sunshine that was coming.

The expected five minute window came and I photographed some of the nicest wedding couple images I have ever taken – in Hobart or Melbourne or anywhere. Usually, I do the family shots straight after the congratulations, but the light is so important to the couple shots, that it’s the right thing to do to change plans.

I can’t publish the shots yet, but I will when they’re edited – trust me, they’re *chef’s kiss*…

In the meantime, here is an image from a while ago that shows just how much the light matters.
